Postpartum Doula Support
for seacoast families and beyond
Holistic support for your family to help you transition into parenthood peacefully.
Every family has different needs after the birth of their baby. But what remains the same for all families is that they will have the best chance to thrive and be well with professional, compassionate, nonjudgmental postpartum support. Your family deserves compassionate care during your postpartum days.
A postpartum doula focuses on the needs of both the new parents and their newborn. Doulas nurture the parents by offering practical assistance as well as emotional support, enabling a faster recovery and increased confidence in meeting the challenges of parenthood.
Maybe you want someone in your home multiple times a week to help you. Maybe you don’t want logistical help in your home, but need someone to check in with and text with all of your questions. A free consultation can help us figure out how to best support you on your journey.
Taylor’s empathy and encouragement were incredibly valuable during the challenges of the newborn days. In addition to her postpartum visit, she checked in regularly by text and phone, to connect us with resources in the community and to remind me to make my own wellbeing a priority. Taylor’s support helped me learn to trust my instincts as a new parent: I’m so grateful to have had her on our side. (Photo: Isaac Epstein Photography)
What does a postpartum doula do?
Infant Feeding Support
Whether you’re breastfeeding, chestfeeding, formula feeding, or combo feeding, a postpartum doula can help you troubleshoot, answer your questions, and set you up for feeding success. Our postpartum doulas are trained in infant feeding support, but they always have references available in case you need more support from a lactation consultant.
Sleep Support
Your doula will help you understand what normal newborn sleep is like and give you tools and tips to thrive and optimize your own sleep.
Newborn Care
Your doula can care for your baby so you can rest or take some time to care for yourself or reconnect with your partner or older child.
Education & Confidence Building
Your doula can answer your questions about your baby, teach you the basics of newborn care, offer reassurance for the many moments of worry during early parenthood, teach you about babywearing, and help you plan for and embark on your first outing with your baby. They’ll even help you figure out how to feed your baby comfortably in public!
Basic Household Tasks
For the times you want to snuggle your baby and rest, your doula can prepare meals, keep the dishes and laundry moving, do some light tidying, and help you organize supplies to make caring for your baby and your home easier.
New Parent Care
Your doula will check in with you to see how you’re healing and offer ideas and support for optimizing your recovery. This can include help so you can rest, drawing a sitz bath for you, sharing ideas for continued healing, and referring you to additional support if needed.
Emotional Support for the Whole Family
The postpartum time can usher in a roller coaster of emotions. Your doula will listen to you and help you process how you’re feeling each time you’re together. They will gladly debrief your birth experience if you need to. They’ll also help you and your loved ones to communicate effectively and navigate the transition in your relationships as you become parents together. Your doula is trained to recognize potential symptoms of postpartum mood disorders and will connect with you support if you need it.
Overnight Support if Desired
Your doula will care for your baby while you sleep. They can bring baby to the breastfeeding/chestfeeding parent when needed and will then settle the baby to sleep until the next feed. If formula feeding, your doula can feed the baby (overnight shifts are 8
hours).
