My clients say…

“I will always remember the way that Taylor stayed so close to me as I was facing my fears of pushing my daughter out into this world and whispered in my ear that I could do it, I was safe, and I was doing wonderfully. These sweet words of encouragement were just the touch I needed to have the confidence to bring our daughter into the world.” – Fiona

I have been somewhat absent here. I’m focusing m I have been somewhat absent here. I’m focusing more on all of this this and honoring the message I’m receiving from myself that I need to scale back my time in this Instagram space and fill it with time with myself and my people. Trusting this as an important step on the path.
Interviewing potential prenatal care providers is Interviewing potential prenatal care providers is easier than you think! You don’t need to have an idea of what type of birth you want yet or any clue about your birth preferences (and many people don’t when they’re newly pregnant and in need of prenatal care). What you need to do is find someone who gives you the answers you want to hear to a few main questions.
.
1️⃣ “How do you support the birth choices of the families you support?” If a provider can authentically say that they’ll support your choices EVEN IF they differ from the provider’s recommendation, this is a good sign.
.
2️⃣ “How do you envision the decision making process unfolding if we are faced with tough decisions during pregnancy and birth.” Here you’re looking for an indication that they view YOU as the decision-maker.
.
3️⃣ “How does the call schedule work for your practice?” You want to understand who might show up for your birth and decide if you’re comfortable with the arrangement.
.
4️⃣ “Do all the providers in your practice share your philosophy and approach?” If you like this provider, but may or may not end up seeing them during your birth, you want to know what to expect from other providers.
.
These questions offer a great start to help you interview providers and choose one. Remember also, that as you start sharing more specific choices throughout pregnancy, you’re still looking for a level of support that honors you as the decision maker. If you reach a point where you’re questioning your choice, it’s never too late to find and choose a new care provider. Know that you are worth it and this experience matters so very much.
.
Did you or do you plan to interview care providers before choosing yours?
I’ve decided 2020 is asking me (and many of us) I’ve decided 2020 is asking me (and many of us) to embrace the concept of “both/and” more than ever before. Friday nights news was so heavy and I went to bed feeling like I had a weight on my chest. I woke up Saturday and it felt even heavier. Tight chest, stomach in knots. Grief, and gratitude, and fear for our collective bodies.
.
I took the day yesterday to radically care for myself.
.
I played with my kids, moved my body, read a book for pleasure, played the piano, did some yoga, cooked, and took a long bath. And then I wondered, “how can things be so f***ed up right now, yet I can still spend a day safe at home with my family doing the things that bring me back to center?” There’s that both/and. That’s just the way it is right now.
.
I also spent a lot of time this morning thinking about the fact that not everyone is experiencing both sides of the coin in this 2020 shit show. For many, it’s all the hard all the time. It’s gut wrenching to think about. I’m appreciating the good I can find in each day and also knowing that I need to do what I can with what I have to help in the ways that I can. That’s the lesson from the weekend I think. How can I be of use right now, right here, with what I have?
✨Birth worker magic in my backyard last night.✨
.
Riding high after an evening of connection with these incredible birth pros last night (I didn’t count, but there had to be 25 of us at least!). I was craving this - physical space shared, conversations without screens between us, and the glorious energy that can only happen when we are together in real time.

Gathering with other local birthworkers outside last night around the fire was just what this doula needed. 💕

Seacoast NH and Maine area moms are so fortunate to be in an area FULL of passionate providers.

And I’m feeling super blessed to do life and “work” with all these amazing people {and so many others who couldn’t make it}.
